Salesforce says AI agents can rack up costs before anyone notices. It announced a hard stop at the budget, with no price.
Salesforce announced the cost controls on 27 October for Agent Fabric, its software for managing AI agents across platforms.
Budget owners get one view of AI spending, and requests stop before costs exceed the budget.
The release names no price and no date when the controls reach all customers. Salesforce also says its policies cut token use by up to 75% in test scenarios. Tokens are the units AI usage is counted in.
Forrester predicted on 21 October that AI will take 20% of business technology spending in 2027. Its survey found only 22% of AI decision-makers saw AI lift EBITDA in the past 12 months.
Our reading for CFOs: a cap in the software can hold the requests it controls to the approved limit, before an overrun reaches next month's invoice. Someone still has to set each agent's limit, and to decide what happens to a task the agent stops halfway through.

For your next steering committee
- 1Ask which AI tools already touch your ERP or finance data, including the ones nobody approved.
- 2Ask what each tool is allowed to change, and who reviews what it changed.
- 3Ask how the result is measured, and who decides to switch a tool off.
