Salesforce won a 10-year Army contract worth up to $5.6 billion. Now it is buying Rune, a start-up the Army already uses.
It signed a definitive agreement to buy Rune Technologies, a military logistics software company founded in 2024 by David Tuttle and Peter Goldsborough, Salesforce said.
Rune's software is already deployed with the US Army and the US Marine Corps.
Salesforce did not disclose the price.
Kendall Collins, who runs Salesforce's government cloud business, called it "our most significant acquisition in this space." Salesforce says its defense business is growing 80% year over year, with customers in all six branches of the US military.
The Army contract sets a ceiling over ten years. It is not money already paid. The Rune deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce's fiscal year 2027.
Salesforce calls Rune its most significant national security acquisition and names no price. The 80% is a growth rate, and the announcement gives no revenue base for the defense business.

For your next steering committee
- 1Ask which exit clauses your largest software and services contracts carry, and when each can be used.
- 2Ask what leaving would cost, in money and in months.
- 3Ask who reads the contract when a dispute starts, and whether they have read it before.
