Infor says one exception manager now handles invoices five clerks typed at State Electric. It found 40% of order lines skipped approval.

The US electrical distributor, an Infor customer for nearly 25 years with 42 locations in eight states, used to have five clerks key about 330 vendor invoices a week by hand, ERP Today reported.

Infor's invoice automation now extracts and checks that data.

Infor reports about 1,500 labour hours saved a year. ERP Today notes Infor does not say whether the other four clerks were reassigned.

Within days of switching on Infor's process mining, the distributor saw that 40% of purchase order lines broke the required order: invoices were created before the purchase order, bypassing approval controls. Infor says process issues are now found 86% faster.

For controllers, the approval gap was already there. The tool made it visible. With one person handling the exceptions that five people used to see, the controller signs off on numbers fewer people have checked. ERP Today's advice is to check approval sequences before automating more.
