Oracle raised its layoff budget by $700 million to $2.8 billion.
Oracle expanded what it calls its 2026 Restructuring Plan by $700 million in a regulatory filing, Bloomberg reported.
The estimated cost is now about $2.8 billion, largely for severance payments.
Oracle said it has already incurred about $2.1 billion under the plan. The software provider attributed the increase to "additional actions that we expect to take".
Bloomberg reported that Oracle employed about 141,000 people worldwide as of late May, including some 49,000 in the United States. Total headcount was about 21,000 lower than a year earlier.
Bloomberg reported that Oracle expanded the plan while under cash pressure from building large data centres for generative AI work.
The $2.8 billion is the whole restructuring plan, not severance alone. Bloomberg says severance is most of it.
When your vendor spends $2.8 billion on leaving, how do you check the team on your account is still there?

For your next steering committee
- 1Ask your integrator to name the people on your programme and to confirm which of them are staying.
- 2Ask what the contract says about replacing key people, and who approves a replacement.
- 3Ask where knowledge of your configuration is written down, outside the heads of the people who built it.
