Anthropic's backer Blackstone now expects a junk credit rating for the Claude maker, the FT reported. Blackstone had predicted investment grade.
Blackstone is the anchor investor in a recent $63 billion deal to finance Anthropic's chips.
It told investors in that deal it expects a "high" junk rating after the IPO: the double B range, the top tier of speculative grade, the Financial Times (FT) reported, in a story TechCrunch picked up on 30 October.
Its earlier forecast was investment grade before 2027. Neither forecast is an agency rating. Anthropic and Blackstone declined to comment to TechCrunch.
TechCrunch notes that a high junk rating would make it harder and costlier for Anthropic to raise the money behind its heavy spending.
Neither report says how much of that spending runs on debt today, which is the number a Claude buyer signing for several years would want next.
