Amazon blocked Meta's AI assistant from buying on Amazon. It launched 12 days earlier.
Amazon stopped Meta's Muse assistant from completing purchases on Amazon.com on Sunday night, 20 September, GeekWire reported.
Muse users saw this message: "Continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use, to which our customers have agreed."
Muse launched on 8 September and became the No. 1 free app in Apple's US App Store within a week, according to GeekWire.
Amazon said: "Agentic third-party applications such as Muse have the same obligations, and we've requested that Meta remove Amazon from the experience." Meta did not immediately respond on Sunday night. Meta has said before that Muse "has no visibility into people's passwords or payment methods."
Meta is also an Amazon customer. GeekWire notes it signed a multibillion-dollar deal in April to use Amazon's Graviton chips for AI workloads.
Amazon has taken a shopping agent to court before. It won a preliminary injunction against Perplexity's shopping agent in March 2026, then lost at the Ninth Circuit on 4 August. The court denied its petition for rehearing on 10 September.
