SAP introduced a tool flagging AI agents that may be high-risk in the EU. EU fines for breaches reach 3% of turnover.

SAP said on 30 October, at its TechEd conference, that the new AI Governance Assistant supports assessments under the EU AI Act, Europe's AI law.

It works inside SAP AI Agent Hub, SAP's inventory of a company's AI agents.

The assistant flags incomplete documentation and pre-fills fields from finished assessments. It also spots systems that "appear high-risk but lack classification" and asks for a new assessment when an agent's fact sheet changes.

SAP is clear that the tool decides nothing. In its words, "all outputs from the AI Governance Assistant appear as drafts for legal and compliance review." The release gives no price, no availability date and no customer.

The stakes sit in the law. Under Article 99 of the EU AI Act, breaking the obligations for high-risk systems can bring fines of up to €15 million or 3% of worldwide annual turnover, whichever is higher.

Our reading: the assistant moves the paperwork, not the liability. A flagged agent still needs a person in the company to classify it and answer for that call.
