Salesforce showed its AI working inside SAP. SAP experts question whether that's allowed.
SAP experts are asking whether a demo in a Salesforce keynote, its main stage presentation, would break SAP's API policy in a company's real, working system, The Register reported.
An API is the official connection point one program uses to talk to another. SAP's policy, launched in April, sets the rules for how outside software may use them.
At Dreamforce, Salesforce's conference in San Francisco, the demo appeared to show a Salesforce AI agent called Marshall onboarding a new supplier in SAP. The agent learned "where to click, which fields are required" in an SAP test system, the presenter said. Siemens was shown as the customer.
A consultant told The Register that SAP's policy restricts API use with AI systems that plan and run their own sequences of calls, unless they go through setups SAP has approved.
Salesforce says the rules do not apply. A spokesperson said the demo "interacted with SAP through its user interface using service accounts, without using SAP APIs." A service account is a login used by software rather than a person.
A second independent consultant said it depends on how the demo was built. SAP declined to comment.
If an AI agent works your SAP screens under a service account, is it a user or a connection between systems?
