Meta hired MongoDB's CEO on Monday. MongoDB's shares fell 19%.
On Monday, Meta launched Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business selling its AI to companies.
The platform includes the Muse agent, an AI assistant, alongside Meta Business Agent. The Muse API lets software connect to Muse, while Muse Code is a computer coding tool. Prices were not announced.
To run it, Meta hired Chirantan "CJ" Desai, who until that morning was chief executive of MongoDB, a database software maker. He reports to Mark Zuckerberg.
MongoDB said Desai "has stepped down as President and CEO of MongoDB, effective immediately." Dev Ittycheria, who ran MongoDB from 2014 to 2025, returns as interim president and CEO. The company's chairman said its "business is strong".
At 10:43am New York time, 24/7 Wall St. reported MongoDB down 19%. ServiceNow was down 4%, while Salesforce fell 2.88%. Desai spent about eight years at ServiceNow, including as president.
Meta's business agent already lets companies answer customer questions and book appointments inside Meta's messaging apps. The new platform puts Meta into software buying decisions long held by companies such as Salesforce and ServiceNow.
What would Meta have to prove before its AI agents could talk to your customers or read your customer records?
