AI at work

Google pays about 100 publishers when their pages shape AI answers.

Google is running what it calls an AI contribution pilot, The Information reported.

ERP LEADERS news desk · · First reported by The Information via PPC Land · Edition no. 24

It pays about 100 digital publishers when Google judges that their content contributed significantly to an answer in AI Overviews, AI Mode or the Gemini app.

Publishers see a monthly "AI earnings" figure in Search Console, Google's dashboard for website owners. They cannot see which pages earned the money or how it was calculated.

One early participant earns more than $1 million a year, according to the report. Several smaller sites received under $1,000 over several months.

Declining the payment does not stop Google using a site's content in its AI features.

Google told Digiday it is "an early-stage learning pilot to test how best to reward high-quality content, on top of the traffic and tools it already provides".

If your company publishes expert content, would you accept a payment you cannot check?
