Google gave some Pixel 11 owners an AI that calls your business.
Google has started testing Call for Me, a feature that lets its Gemini AI assistant phone a business for the user, TechCrunch reported on 24 September.
The test starts with Pixel 11 owners in the US who pay for a Gemini subscription and use a test version of Google's Phone app.
Gemini can check whether a product is in stock or ask a shop to hold an item. It can also book a restaurant table or move an appointment. It introduces itself to the business while the user watches a live transcript and can take over at any moment. With the user's approval, it can share personal details during the call.
Google says it is starting small because "real-world conversations are nuanced."
Google first showed an assistant booking a hair salon by phone at its I/O conference in 2018. Eight years later, paying subscribers are testing the idea.
Could your front desk check what a customer's AI is allowed to change?
