Deloitte Australia cut about 170 jobs. It is hiring over 500 for client outsourcing.
Deloitte told staff this week of the redundancies, about 2 per cent of its roughly 11,000 non-partner workforce, the Australian Financial Review reported on Sunday.
The cuts spanned the firm. The more than 500 open roles sit in its outsourcing division, also called managed services, and target technology, data, cybersecurity, tax and legal professionals.
A spokeswoman said the firm took "considered action where there has been a sustained shift in client demand" and is "also currently hiring in areas where market demand remains strong."
Deloitte wants to triple that division to $1 billion in revenue by 2030, according to the AFR. It runs back-office work such as finance, with Australian staff alongside lower-cost hubs such as India.
The AFR says other big four accounting firms are pushing into outsourcing too. PwC Australia is targeting at least $500 million in outsourcing revenue by 2030.
The report does not say whether any of the roughly 170 can apply for the new roles, or how many of the 500-plus will sit in Australia rather than India.

For your next steering committee
- 1Ask your integrator to name the people on your programme and to confirm which of them are staying.
- 2Ask what the contract says about replacing key people, and who approves a replacement.
- 3Ask where knowledge of your configuration is written down, outside the heads of the people who built it.
