TCS entered 284 workers in the US H-1B visa lottery, down from 5,955. Infosys and Cognizant also cut their entries.
Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys sharply cut their entries for fiscal 2027.
Cognizant entered none. The American Bazaar reported the figures on 21 October, citing a Congressional Research Service report published on 14 October.
H-1B visas let US employers hire foreign professionals for jobs that need specialised knowledge and at least a bachelor's degree. The lottery decides which registered workers an employer may file for.
Infosys entered 759 workers, down from 8,886. TCS entered 284, down from 5,955. Cognizant entered none, after 3,752 a year earlier.
The drop came amid tighter US rules. Since September 2025, certain new H-1B petitions for workers coming from abroad carry a $100,000 payment. The 2027 lottery also gave more weight to higher-paid jobs.
The article quotes no response from the three companies. It says firms may lean more on staff already in the US and local hiring, alongside visa extensions and transfers.
Our reading: the three firms entered 1,043 workers between them, against 18,593 a year earlier. The report does not say how they will staff US projects instead.
