Galbot's robots perceived the ball, planned the shot and swung on their own at the World Humanoid Robot Games. The company calls it the first live autonomous humanoid tennis match against human athletes. Galbot's own video has passed 6.7 million views since 22 August.
Ten years after AlphaGo beat Lee Sedol at Go, the same kind of system is standing on a court. The perception stack that tracks a tennis ball is the one Galbot sells for picking in pharmacies and warehouses, where the objects do not move.
