The Pentagon barred its military from Anthropic's AI. Trump invited Anthropic's CEO to dinner.
President Trump planned to host Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at a private White House dinner on Sunday evening, Axios reported.
It would be the first one-on-one meeting between the two.
Amodei was one notable absence from the previous week's state dinner, where OpenAI's Sam Altman and Google's Sundar Pichai sat with Trump. He had a scheduling conflict, and Trump invited him personally afterwards, Axios reported.
A federal appeals court recently upheld, 2-1, the Pentagon's decision to classify Anthropic as a "supply chain risk", which bars the military from using its models, Al Jazeera reported. The label followed Anthropic's refusal in February to allow its tools in autonomous weapons or domestic mass surveillance.
Trump allies sent the White House talking points about Amodei's links to the effective altruism movement, and some advised against the meeting, according to Axios.
Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson plan to meet the top AI chief executives at the White House on Tuesday.
