Korea's Shinhan asked 11 department heads to teach AI agents their judgment.
Shinhan Financial Group, one of South Korea's biggest financial groups, is building AI agents that capture the "expertise, experience and decision-making criteria" of its department heads, Seoul Economic Daily reported on Sunday.
The reason is rotation. When department heads move to other posts, their know-how tends to leave with them, the paper reported.
Eleven departments are taking part: five at Shinhan Bank and two each at Shinhan Card, Shinhan Investment Corp and Shinhan Life. In each department, the head works with a junior colleague who can do AI engineering, instructing the AI in plain language.
The agents are meant to answer staff questions about procedures and comment on reports before they reach the boss. When targets are missed, they are meant to suggest fixes based on similar past cases.
Chairman Jin Ok-dong told the kickoff meeting: "Department heads should be directly involved in the development process."
The pilot runs until November, with results due in early December. Shinhan disclosed no costs.
Whose judgment in your company would you most want to keep if they left tomorrow?

For your next steering committee
- 1Ask which AI tools already touch your ERP or finance data, including the ones nobody approved.
- 2Ask what each tool is allowed to change, and who reviews what it changed.
- 3Ask how the result is measured, and who decides to switch a tool off.
