SAP said old ERP on Oracle loses its patches after 2030. Even SAP-sold licences.
SAP set out the change on 7 October in a post by its chief technology officer, Philipp Herzig.
It covers companies still on Business Suite 7, SAP's older ERP, the system that runs a firm's finance, purchasing and stock, when its data sits in an Oracle database or another outside database, such as IBM's or Microsoft's.
Standard support ends on 31 December 2027 and the optional extension on 31 December 2030. After that, SAP says it will stop database-specific support, "including for customers that originally licensed their third-party database through SAP". SAP's security patches for those setups, the fixes it ships against attacks, stop too.
SAP wants these customers on its cloud ERP by the end of 2030. A customer who moves the old system onto SAP's own database first can stay on a support deal made for that one customer, and SAP says even that is no long-term answer.
Counted from 8 October, a company that bought its Oracle licence through SAP has 1,545 days left. The post names no price for any of the routes.
If your old SAP system still runs on Oracle, which move comes first in your plan, the database or the new ERP?

For your next steering committee
- 1Ask when each major software contract renews and what notice period applies.
- 2Ask which price protections are written into the contract and which rest on a sales conversation.
- 3Ask what a price rise on that line would do to the run budget, and who would notice it first.
