SAP must stop offering one Signavio function in Germany, a court ruled. Celonis won.
A function in Signavio Process Intelligence, software from SAP, infringes a patent held by Celonis, Handelsblatt reported on 14 October, The Munich I Regional Court found.
SAP must stop offering it in Germany and pay damages. The judgment is not final.
The patent covers a way to measure the net processing time between steps in a business process. Computerwoche reported that SAP must also disclose its use since 22 April 2020. That includes customer names and licence counts, along with pricing.
SAP says the ruling affects one specific function and will not touch S/4HANA Cloud migrations or customer access to Signavio Process Intelligence. It will appeal and has challenged the patent before the Federal Patent Court. Celonis, valued at over €10 billion, says it protects its intellectual property consistently.
SAP bought Signavio in March 2021. The damages amount has not been disclosed. SAP's statement covers access to Signavio; it does not say what replaces the affected function for users in Germany.
