McKinsey, BCG and Bain will pay US MBA hires $200,000, offer letters show. The same report says project teams are getting leaner.
McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group and Bain will lift US starting pay from 2027, citing the careers firm Management Consulted, Bloomberg News reported.
It is their first starting-pay rise since 2022, according to the report. Pay had stalled after a pandemic hiring boom left the firms overstaffed and led to job cuts.
None of the three firms has announced a raise, Poets&Quants noted. Management Consulted says it checked the figures against more than 120 offer letters for 2027.
Starting pay with an MBA, a business master's degree, rises from $192,000 at McKinsey & Company and Bain, and from $190,000 at BCG. Without an MBA, it rises to $120,000 from $112,000 at McKinsey and Bain and from $110,000 at BCG.
Poets&Quants says AI labs such as OpenAI and Anthropic recruit the same graduates and can offer shares before a listing.
Management Consulted links the pay data to "leaner project teams, more AI-assisted delivery, and a heavier reliance on pre-MBA hires over more expensive MBA talent."
Our arithmetic: the MBA rise is $8,000 to $10,000, about 4% to 5%. The report gives no hiring numbers, so it does not show how many get offers.
