The Americas brought in $25.9 billion of it.

The headcount table in EY's own release shows 87,546 people in the Americas at the end of June, against 92,030 a year earlier, so 4,484 fewer. Over the same year its global services and functions, which include the Global Delivery Services centres that support client teams, grew by 10,092 to 92,082 people. The firm as a whole grew 2.2% to 415,182.

EY said sales from its AI services grew by 49%. Chief executive Janet Truncale said clients want approaches that combine technology with "deep industry knowledge, trusted relationships and human judgement".

The release gives no reason for the drop in the Americas and does not say whether work moved to the delivery centres. On year-end headcount, Americas revenue per person rose from about $269,000 to about $296,000, though Americas client work can also use staff counted elsewhere in EY.

If your programme runs with a Big Four firm, has the team around it changed shape this year?
