Analysts said Claude subscribers use 42% of Anthropic's computing. They pay 10% of sales.
Claude is the AI assistant made by Anthropic.
Research firm SemiAnalysis estimates that Claude subscriptions use about 42% of the computing Anthropic uses to answer requests. Those subscriptions bring in 10% of its revenue, tech news site The Register reported on Tuesday.
SemiAnalysis compared what a $20 monthly plan buys. By its count, Claude Pro gives about 2.9 billion tokens a month, compared with about 1 billion for ChatGPT. Tokens are the chunks of text AI reads and writes.
The firm said Anthropic is an overwhelmingly better deal, offering about five times the value across the board. It priced it at what developers pay per use. It also said recent changes effectively halved the value of OpenAI's $200 plan.
OpenAI did not immediately respond to The Register. The report carries no comment from Anthropic.
If the estimate holds, each dollar of subscription revenue uses about four times as much computing as an average dollar of Anthropic revenue (42% of the computing against 10% of the revenue). It measures usage, not profit. The report gives no period for the estimates and no cost figures.
If flat monthly AI plans get repriced, which team budget moves first?
