The news behind the software that runs companies, explained for everyone.

Games Workshop hoped for new finance software in 2020. Its old systems still run.

Games Workshop, the Nottingham maker of Warhammer, is hiring a head of IT on a fixed-term contract, The Register reported on Monday.

ERP LEADERS news desk · · First reported by The Register (Lindsay Clark) · Edition no. 30

The company had hoped to switch on new Microsoft Dynamics software in 2020. It is an ERP system, the software that runs a company's finance, stock and orders. In January 2021 The Register reported that the rollout had been delayed and a new firm appointed to install it. In January 2022 it added another £500,000 to the project budget.

Its July 2026 annual report says the main financial system still relies on several older ERP applications. About those, it says: "we have identified control deficiencies in our previous audits." That means weaknesses in its financial checks. A review of IT systems says those deficiencies still exist, The Register reported.

The company's own line in the same report: "Our Systems Improvement Plan (SIP) is on track with very clear milestones for us all to support and deliver."

The plan can be on track while those checks stay weak. The report gives no new start date, no total spend, and does not say which deficiencies remain or when they will be fixed.

When a replacement slips, which finance controls do you run by hand until it lands?
