The Chinese robot maker Unitree Robotics released the Dex5-S on 21 September. Unitree says it is the size of a human hand and has 22 active degrees of freedom, meaning 22 joints it can move on its own. Unitree lists the price from $6,500, before tax and shipping.

Every joint is backdrivable, Unitree says. An outside push can move a finger instead of meeting a locked joint. The company also says each joint has impact torque protection.

In the film, the hand is mounted on a robot arm. It cuts paper with scissors and holds a spoon, then catches a small ball. Unitree labels the clips "captured at real speed, with no acceleration". Our report uses those clips and excludes the film's opening studio shots.

The film passed 2.3 million YouTube views in five days.
