The US Navy spent $754 million upgrading a cruiser. It is being scrapped.
That and three more of Tuesday's business stories, in 30 seconds:
1. The FBI removed an Accenture contractor after a breach exposed data about FBI staff, Reuters reported, citing sources. The FBI said a contractor failed to install a security fix. Oracle issued the fixes in June. The break-in came in September. Accenture said it was "proud to support the mission of the FBI". 2. KPMG offered UK staff facing job cuts an extra £100 to keep information confidential, The Register reported. Its UK partners averaged £880,000 in the year to September 2025. KPMG said it "will support our colleagues throughout this process". 3. Microsoft expected to spend at least $1 billion a year on Anthropic's AI assistant, Claude, for its own staff. It then cut that estimate by over a third, according to summaries of a report by The Information. 4. The U.S. Navy cruiser USS Vicksburg was towed out of Philadelphia to be dismantled, Baird Maritime reported. A $754.1 million upgrade had not returned it to service. The report carries no Navy response.
The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) counted $1.84 billion spent on four cruisers retired before they were sent on missions, Baird Maritime reported.
Who on your projects reviews the costs still to come, rather than the money already spent?
