SAP spent about €518 million on Prior Labs. The AI start-up brought in under €1 million of SAP's sales last quarter.
Also in 30 seconds: OpenAI cutting its funding target to up to $20 billion, and a new SAP tool that flags AI agents which may count as high-risk under the EU AI Act.
1. The figures come from SAP's own quarterly statement of 21 October. The deal closed on 16 July, so Prior Labs counted for about two and a half months of the quarter. With Reltio and Dremio, SAP paid about €2.1 billion for three data firms this year. Together they added €49 million to third-quarter revenue and cut operating profit by €59 million under IFRS (SAP calls the accounting preliminary).
2. OpenAI now seeks up to $20 billion, down from up to $30 billion, the Financial Times reported and CNBC confirmed on Saturday. The round has not closed. The FT said some investors chose to put in less than planned before a Friday deadline. CNBC gives no figure yet for the cash committed.
3. SAP said at its TechEd conference on 30 October that its AI Governance Assistant supports assessments under the EU AI Act. It flags systems that "appear high-risk but lack classification", and every output is a draft "for legal and compliance review". SAP gave no price or date. Under Article 99, breaking the high-risk obligations can cost up to €15 million or 3% of worldwide turnover, whichever is higher.
SAP said this week it has built Reltio and Dremio technology into Business Data Cloud. It gave no prices. Is Business Data Cloud in your 2027 budget yet?
