Deutsche Telekom moved 90 SAP applications to Google Cloud. SAP energy use fell 40%.

Deutsche Telekom moved its whole central SAP estate, about 90 applications, to RISE with SAP, SAP's cloud subscription, hosted on Google Cloud, according to a customer film Google Cloud published on 25 September. Some had been running for more than 30 years. The Google Cloud agreement runs into 2030.
The systems now sit in Google's data centre in Eemshaven, Netherlands. Google Cloud says the site is cooled with water from the shore and reaches a PUE of 1.0, against 1.57 in Telekom's old data centre. PUE is a building's total power divided by the power its computers use, so 1.0 means almost nothing goes on cooling and other overhead.
According to Google Cloud, energy use across Telekom's SAP estate fell by 40%, and the move finished ahead of schedule. SAP and Google Cloud now run the servers and applications day to day, and Telekom uses Gemini models to see SAP data in real time.
The PUE change alone, from 1.57 to 1.0, would cut the building's power by about 36% for the same computing load. The film does not say how much of the 40% came from the building and how much from the software.
