Also in 30 seconds: 6,716 fewer staff at Wipro, the ten layers Workday's CEO cited for its job cuts, and SAP's results on Wednesday.

1. Since Broadcom bought VMware, whose software lets companies run many servers on one physical machine, licence costs have often risen 50% to 200%. Some customers reported quotes 1,500% higher, CIO.com reported. A survey for Rimini Street, which sells support independent of the vendor, found 90% of chief information officers at VMware customers weighing alternatives. Switching can take three to five years to pay for itself, CIO.com added. A VMware spokesman declined to respond to the survey.

2. Wipro ended September with 236,328 employees, 6,716 fewer than in June, People Matters reported. Revenue from its IT services stayed flat at $2,611.5 million in the quarter. The value of large contracts booked fell 58.6%, BusinessToday reported. The results do not say why staff numbers fell.

3. Workday cut about 525 jobs, roughly 2.5% of its staff. CEO Aneel Bhusri said parts of development had "ten layers between me and the developer getting work done", iTWire reported. He blamed an organisation with too many layers, not AI.

4. SAP shares stood at €201.55 on 16 October, about 57% above their level at the July report. Option prices, which show how far traders expect a share to move, now point to about 7.5% up or down after Wednesday's third-quarter results, Saxo wrote. After SAP's last eight reports, the usual move was 4.4%.

If your company uses VMware, is it renewing with Broadcom or switching away?
