Zoom bought enterprise-search firm Onyx. It says self-hosting will stay.

Zoom announced its acquisition of Onyx on 23 October, adding enterprise knowledge search to Zoom AI Services.

Zoom says the software connects information held across more than 50 workplace applications.

The company says Onyx will remain a standalone, open-source product that organisations can host themselves. It also says the product will continue to work with different models and applications.

That makes the commitment to the existing product part of this acquisition story. The announcement does not disclose the transaction price or a schedule for changes to the standalone offering.

Our reading: existing Onyx users have a concrete commitment to track through future releases, while a new evaluation should test the required sources and permissions. The acquisition announcement alone cannot establish how a particular installation will be supported or what changes an existing customer may need to make.
