SAP customers have seven days to give notice on next year's support.

30 September is the annual cut-off for SAP customers changing their support arrangements, ERP Today reported.

Contracts require three months' written notice. Miss the date and the contract renews for another year.

Standard support for ECC ends on 31 December 2027. Many companies still run the older SAP system. Longer paid support runs to 2030 and adds two percentage points to the support fee.

SAP had roughly 35,000 ECC customers, according to ERP Today. By the end of 2024, only 39% had moved to SAP's newer system, S/4HANA. The publication projected that about 17,000 customers, around half, would remain on ECC through 2027. It also cited IDC, a market research company, which put the figure at 40% to 45%.

Moving systems costs between 2 million and 1 billion dollars and takes three to seven years, the publication said.

The ERP Today piece is built around the third-party support market. Those providers advertise annual savings of up to 90% compared with SAP's own support. Rimini Street said in June 2025 that it will support all versions of SAP ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA through 2040.

Does anyone in your organisation own the date your support contract renews itself?
