Rivian delivered a record 19,248 cars. An automated station under-tightened 14 battery packs.

Rivian built 19,751 vehicles and delivered 19,248 in the third quarter, roughly 45% more deliveries than a year earlier, TechCrunch reported on Friday.

It was the first full quarter on sale for the R2, which starts at $60,000.

The recall covers R2s whose high-voltage battery pack fasteners were "under torqued" at an "automated station" in its Normal, Illinois, factory, TechCrunch reported. The fault can cause a loss of power while driving.

Rivian told TechCrunch the cars are "being inspected to properly torque the fastener or replace damaged components at no cost to customers." Its filing with US safety regulators says it "is not aware of any customer reports, accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue." The line now rejects fasteners that are not tightened properly.

The 14 recalled R2s are 0.07% of the 19,751 vehicles Rivian built in the quarter; the reports do not say how many R2s passed through that station. Rivian plans 20,000 to 25,000 R2s by the end of the year and is adding a second shift. Its first R2 recall came last month.

Does your line stop a car at the station when one fastener misses its torque, or only after the fact?
