Microsoft dropped its Copilot Plus PC name. The AI label lasted 2.5 years.
Microsoft is retiring the label it created for Windows laptops capable of running AI features locally, The Verge reported.
Microsoft's new 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop meet the label's requirements, Windows Central reported, but a Surface executive told the site that neither will be called a Copilot Plus PC. A Qualcomm executive said other machines with the same features will "probably" drop the name too.
Recall was the label's best-known feature. It saves screen snapshots so users can search what they previously saw. The Verge wrote that it was not well received.
Microsoft plans to discuss the next chapter of local AI on 7 October, The Verge reported.
If your company chose laptops for the AI label, which of those features do staff actually use?
