Disney warned its lawyers of cuts, then advertised a $248,800 AI job.
On 18 September, a memo told Disney's legal and global affairs department it would become "a much smaller organization than it is today", Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Six days later, on 24 September, Disney posted a new role: Director, AI Enablement & Legal Engineering, in Burbank or New York.
The listing pays $185,500 to $248,800 a year in California and up to $260,600 in New York. The job is to redesign legal workflows with large language models and AI agents, starting with contract review and compliance. It will also set quality checks on the AI's output.
The department has about 1,000 staff, according to Artificial Lawyer, which says it has not verified the size of the cuts.
The warning and the job posting came from the same department, six days apart. That timing alone does not prove AI is replacing specific jobs.
If this role landed in your legal or finance team, which workflow would it redesign first?
