Deutsche Telekom expects AI and automation to save €2.5bn. AI sales would reach €800m.
Deutsche Telekom expects that much in savings on indirect costs, such as overheads, by 2030 against a 2023 baseline as it expands AI and automation, Reuters reported.
Its AI-related revenue target outside the US is €800m by 2030.
The savings target is roughly three times the sales target. The two are not directly comparable: one measures cost reductions against 2023, while the other measures revenue outside the US.
The company's release said its Frag Magenta chatbot handled about 2.6 million customer service calls in the first half of 2026. In the US, customer service calls fell 55%, and AI agents, software that answers customers by itself, handle 40% of contacts. More than 100,000 employees have been trained in AI. "AI is fundamentally transforming Deutsche Telekom," chief executive Tim Höttges said.
Outside the US, Telekom expects about €1.1bn in gross savings by 2027 versus 2023. It intends to put additional 2027 savings into German fibre and digital infrastructure.
Neither Reuters nor the company release gave a jobs figure, and Telekom did not say how much of the €2.5bn would come from staff costs.
