BNP Paribas plans AI agents for its loan reports. Google signed a five-year deal.
BNP Paribas and Google Cloud announced a five-year partnership on 24 September 2026.
The bank will use Google's cloud and its Gemini AI models to build software agents that carry out tasks on their own.
The first agents are planned for the corporate and investment bank. They will help teams prepare corporate credit memos, the reports a bank writes before lending to a company. Sales and trading, plus research and deal structuring, are to follow.
The bank has set limits. Some categories of data will stay out of the public cloud, the servers Google shares between customers, the announcement says. Each agent will be authenticated and given access only to what its task needs. Its links to the bank's systems will also be monitored.
Gemini already runs Nickel Assist, which helps 200 advisers at Nickel, BNP Paribas' payment account business, answer customer questions.
BNP Paribas employs over 180,000 people in 64 countries.
Would you let an agent draft the credit memo if a human still signs the loan?

For your next steering committee
- 1Ask which AI tools already touch your ERP or finance data, including the ones nobody approved.
- 2Ask what each tool is allowed to change, and who reviews what it changed.
- 3Ask how the result is measured, and who decides to switch a tool off.
